Masdevallia and Dracula orchids grow throughout most of the tropical Americas. They are, for the most part, cool growers and can be found growing in high elevation cloud forests where humidity is always high. Others, however, grow in warmer and drier environments where the plants can dry before the next rain. There are many forms and colors in these two genera as well as blooming habits, erect, pendant, solitary, and sequential blooming. The hybrids have also proven to be easier to grow in some cases.
